Enter, stranger, and be welcome to this little corner of the web. Pull up a pew, set yourself close to the fire, and let me to introduce myself.
I’m Nick, and as you hopefully guessed, I’m a fan of board games.
While I’ve enjoyed them since I was a kid, it’s only really in recent years that I’ve taken to playing them with any particular regularity. I do however like to think about them more broadly: their mechanics, themes, artwork and the experiences they provide, both in terms of the games themselves and with the other players around the table.
As a British translator/proofreader (FR/DE>EN) living in Germany, I also have access and exposure to games that might not get as much coverage in the English-speaking world. Some of this will simply be due to staggered release dates for different languages, but others never leave their native country.
And so my aim here is to shine a little more light, in English, on what is going on in the (primarily) French- and German-speaking board game communities, and maybe with luck help some of those game gain a larger audience. While there are people from those communities also putting out English-language content, it is far from the norm, and there are smaller, indie designers out there deserve a wider audience.
And so there it is. I hope you enjoy your stay, and that you find my musings and titbits interesting, or if not at least somewhat amusing.
